Monthly Topic: What you can expect from an IP audit

First Friday Entrepreneurship Office Hours are an open discussion forum where interested parties can gather to ask questions about biomedical and clinical entrepreneurship with a focus on digital health and AI entrepreneurship.

The sessions are moderated by Arlen Meyers, MD, MBA, President and CEO of the Society of Physician Entrepreneurs (SoPE) at www.sopenet.org and a member of the ABAIM advisory committee.
There will be a mini-topic presentation with a guest, focused Q&A, and an open discussion forum. Sample mini topics include:

  • How and where to find money for your venture
  • What to do with your idea
  • How to work with other members of the innovation ecosystem and where to find them
  • Non-clinical career development

    Dr. Meyers is a retired professor of otolaryngology, dentistry, and engineering at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical campus and President and CEO of SoPE. He has founded several medical device companies and is also the cofounder of a medical tourism company. His primary research centers around biomedical and health innovation and entrepreneurship and life science technology commercialization. He consults for and speaks to companies, governments, colleges and universities around the world who need expertise and contacts in the areas of bio entrepreneurship, bioscience, healthcare, healthcare IT, medical tourism — nationally and internationally, new product development, product design, and financing new ventures. Dr. Meyers is a Fulbright Scholar and a former Harvard-Macy Fellow. A devoted and prolific member of the SoPE community, Dr. Meyers also leads the Colorado Chapter of SoPE.

    Laurence A. Freeman is senior C-level executive (CEO), with broad international experience within the United States, Canada and Europe.
    He is currently the CEO of Oakbay LLC, (2014- Present), located in Denver, Colorado, an Intellectual Property Commercialization and Business Development Company, whose mission is to commercialize the innovation and development of new healthcare products with specific focus on the following verticals: medical devices, professional and commercial application digital healthcare products, public health solutions and new innovative nano-tech products for the pharmaceutical markets in the United States, Canada and all other Global Regions.
    As CEO of Oakbay LLC, he has established multiple strategic relationships with industry related Fortune 100 to Fortune 500 companies with the particular focus on client project commercialization and execution.
    Since 2015, Mr. Freeman has been an Advisory Council member of the Jake Jabs Center of Entrepreneurship, Business School, University of Colorado, Denver. The Jake Jabs Center is the largest University-related entrepreneurship center in Colorado and one of the largest in the United States in terms of graduate entrepreneurship course offerings. He is also an adviser to the advisory council members who are tasked with the creation of the new Healthcare focused MBA program.
    Since 2015, Laurence was appointed and sits on the CU Denver Business School, Jake Jabs Center of Entrepenuership. In 2018, he was appointed as Chairman of the Rutt Bridges Venture Fund, a Jake Jabs Center of Entrepenurship micro VC investment fund which is being started in the fall of 2019.
    Between 2015 and 2016 he co – chaired the TiE Rockies startups accelerator program (30+ ventures).
